Are You Concerned About How Google Instant Might Impact Your Site's Visibility on Google?

On September 8, Google announced Google Instant. This is perhaps the biggest shift in the user interface (UI) of search engine results pages since search engines were invented and also one of the most sophisticated engineering projects for Google since Caffeine. Google Instant does two things: it returns results more quickly, promising to save users 2-5 seconds per search and it predicts search queries as the user types. Sounds great, doesn't it?

While it's too early to predict the implications of this with any certainty, and what might be its impact on sites' visibility in Google, a few speculations come to mind.

1. Searching on Google becomes a much speedier process for the end user, who may now be less likely than ever to click through to the second page of results.

Video Optimization or SEO for Blended Search

Google Universal SearchIf you're like most bloggers, you probably don't think much about optimizing your online video content. The fact is that less than 20% of all content creators insert keywords into their videos' filenames on their website or blogs, and even fewer use more advanced tactics like writing keyword-rich captions and annotations, or creating online video libraries.

Universal search, or so-called "Blended search," can be seen everywhere. You have noticed it has become increasingly common on major search engines to be displayed videos, images, news stories, maps, and other types of results alongside the standard search results.

Some believe that optimizing video content and thus to take advantage of universal search is by far the easiest way to get a first-page organic ranking on Google. That's why I have put together some really useful tips on video optimization:

Site Loading Speed Is Now a Ranking Factor

page loading speed as a ranking factorThere has been a lot of talk since last December when Google publicly stated its intention to add page loading speed to the 200+ other ranking factors. Yesterday, Google officially announced that they're including a new signal, site speed, in their search ranking algorithms.

However site speed won't carry as much weight as the relevance of a page. Currently, fewer than 1% of search queries are affected by the site speed signal, and it only applies for visitors searching in English on Google.com at this point.

Does Google Remove the PageRank Coming from Links on Pages that No Longer Exist?

Having more links than your competitors has been always extremely important in order to increase your placement in the search engines. The more inbound links under a particular keyword you have on as many reputable websites as possible, the more the chances of your site are to come up number one in Google when someone searches for that keyword. The anchor text of your links has to include your keywords as a text and an URL pointing to your webpage as a place where visitors are sent once they click on it.

Why Having Social Media Friendly Site is As Important As SEO

Social Media, SearchWhen your site has poor presence on the major search engines, obviously your business is losing vast amounts of revenue. Web sites that are not easy to find via search miss out on bringing in new customers as well as repeat customers that use Google to find sites they already know about. The questions is whether the same is true for web sites that are not social media friendly? The short answer, of course, is Yes. Why?

Not only do people discover new sites through search, but they also rely on recommendations made via email, word of mouth and through social media content. Making a web site social media friendly will make it easier to share content with others, extend reach and facilitate engagement.

Social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, favorite blogs, are often the starting point for discovering new content for an increasing number of internet users. Also, content creation and links that come as an outcome of social media participation can provide positive signals to search engines and affect search visibility. In a nutshell, making a site more social media friendly will expand the opportunity for content to be discovered directly and indirectly.
